I founded Sound and Rhythm Drumming Studio 2000 as a way to share my passion for drumming and music with others. I began by teaching drumming to children at a friend’s school. Parents of students requested private lessons; this eventually led to a full-time operation bringing rhythmic education to over a thousand people. I specialize in teaching drum set, along with one-on-one and group West African drum lessons on authentic djembes and dununs.
I have traveled to Ghana and Guinea in West Africa to study music and perform as a student of master drummer Mamady Keita. Also, I have spent considerable time learning from grandmaster, Famoudou Konate as well. I have also studied with musical luminaries such as Chester Thompson (Phil Collins, Frank Zappa, & Genesis), Bob Moses (Jazz legend- Jaco Pastorias & Pat Matheny), Roy “Futureman” Wooten (five time Grammy winner with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones) and Jason Marsalis (an N.E.A Jazz master and member of the Marsalis family from New Orleans).
I routinely perform with various groups such as African drumming ensembles, a samba band, jazz groups, a kora (African harp) player and singer/songwriters. I have also traveled as far Taiwan and Alaska to perform. I love to perform, but my mission is to share my passion for drumming through music education. At Sound and Rhythm, I teach students of all ages and experience and I strive to make lessons and classes fun and relaxing.
Sound and Rhythm Drumming Studio is located in Nashville, Tennessee.
